Average score

SenpaiStash started because buying anime merch online is a coin flip. The same figure appears at four wildly different prices across a dozen storefronts, half the photos are the manufacturer's own render, and somewhere in that spread is a recast that will arrive with a smeared face and a box that smells of solvent.

What we actually do

We buy the product at retail — the same listing you would use. When it arrives we photograph it against a known-genuine reference where we have one, check the paint edges under magnification, work the joints, and note anything the listing didn't mention. Then it goes on a shelf for a few weeks, because plenty of problems only show up after the third time you move it.

How the score works

Every product gets five sub-scores — sculpt, paint and QC, articulation, packaging and value — weighted 30/25/15/10/20 into the final number. The weights never change between categories, which is deliberate: it means a keychain and a Perfect Grade kit are held to the same standard of "is this what it claimed to be". You can see the full rubric and a worked example on the scoring breakdown.

Articulation on a poster. Yes — a poster scores on articulation, and it scores badly. That is the point of a fixed rubric: the number tells you what the object is, not just whether we liked it. Read the sub-scores, not only the total.

How we pay for it

SenpaiStash is funded by affiliate commission. If you buy through one of our AliExpress links we receive a small percentage, and you pay exactly what you would have paid anyway. We also run display advertising.

What that does not buy. No manufacturer, retailer or agency has ever paid for placement in a ranking, a higher score, or a review at all. We do not accept free samples in exchange for coverage. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed at the top of the affected page in plain language — not in a footer.

Where we get it wrong

We are a small team and our sample size for any single product is small — often one or two units. Manufacturing variance is real, and a paint QC figure drawn from our sample plus aggregated owner reports is an estimate, not a guarantee. If your experience differs from ours, tell us; corrections get made and noted.
